Sunday afternoon I traveled to Washington, Louisiana for some really cool antiquing. Washington has been on my bucket list of places to see since I moved to Lafayette two years ago. This sweet little town, founded in 1720 as a French trading post, is the third oldest settlement in Louisiana. Eighty percent of the structures in Washington have been identified as being of historic or architectural significance. So you can imagine what a treat it was just to drive around it. However, our main destination was The Old Schoolhouse Antique Mall. Housed in the old high school, this mall boasts 40,000 square feet of shopping. Wandering through the gymnasium, library and old classrooms, so reminiscent of my high school, was really half the fun. After hours of shopping, we topped off our day with lunch in their cafe...tuna melt followed up with "to die for" homemade banana pudding.
